And for anyone who has owned one the recent smartphones that tend to sport  smooth glass touchscreens, it is easy to understand why such a thing can be a hard task. Now take that difficulty and multiply it by the dusty conditions of a desert where the sunshine is the best and you will start to see why large desert solar farms are having a tough time doing their dusting. Thankfully, one Boston University professor seems to have an answer to this problem.

In a deal that sounds too good to be true at face value — multiple solar technology companies in the UK are offering free solar installations to homes. The homeowners are not expected to pay a single penny to the companies and they can then use these installations to cut down on their own power bills. But that does not mean the companies are not making any money. They are in fact, making quite a bit thanks to the Feed-in-Tariff incentive.

New Research Can Turn Flat Surfaces Into Solar Panels

There’s new work afoot in the labs of EnSol solar technology company that can turn windows, walls, etc. to solar panels. If this works out, then the full exterior surface area of any building can be used to collect solar energy — thus greatly increasing the solar energy production rate for the building.

A new kind of solar panel is being developed by New York based solar technology company Prism Solar, with help from the Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. It is a holographic solar panel that uses prisms instead of the normal silicon-based solutions.
