Facebook will live stream Uefa Champions League matches next season as part of a new deal with Fox Sports.
The Fox Sports partnership is the latest instance of Facebook’s increased emphasis on live programming, particularly of sporting events, as a way to drive user growth and engagement.
Fox said that, in accordance with the deal, two live matches per day will be aired from the group stages, four from the round of 16 and four quarter final fixtures will be available for livestreaming on Facebook to users in the US.
The social network has inked a deal with Fox Sports to live stream the Champions League tournament in September. When Real Madrid beat Juventis of Italy in the European Professional Tournament, 34 million people had 98 million interactions on Facebook in a reaction to the match, according to the report.

They also have a deal with Univision to broadcast matches from Liga MX, Mexico’s top football division. Half of the matches will be presented in English, while the other half will be in Spanish.
