Lobbyist shot is expected to make full recovery

One of the Capitol Police officers injured in Wednesday’s shooting has thrown out the first pitch at the congressional baseball game – to thunderous applause. Congressman Steve Scalise was hospitalized due to the attack, and he remains in critical condition.

Vice President Mike Pence has visited the Washington hospital and “checked in” on a Louisiana congressman recovering from a gunshot wound. After accepting it gracefully, Barton cracked, “Next year we won’t be so nice”. And I have a feeling that Steve has made a great sacrifice, but there could be some unity being brought to our country.

Capitol Police have increased their presence at the stadium where the game will be played as well as at the Capitol itself.

Lobbyist Matt Mika, who was also shot multiple times and critically wounded, has undergone additional surgery and doctors expect a full recovery, his family said Saturday. He was shot in the hip with a rifle round, and suffered internal bleeding and damage to internal organs.

Scalise was wounded when a gunman opened fire at a GOP lawmaker baseball practice Wednesday morning.

The Louisiana Republican was shot in the hip Wednesday morning in the baseball practice shooting by an IL man with grudges against President Donald Trump and the GOP.

Investigators say Hodgkinson shot House Rep. Steve Scalise on Wednesday before he was killed by police who had been guarding Scalise on the Alexandria, Virginia, baseball field. Convinced that Trump and his Republican allies are largely to blame for the nation’s acrimonious political discourse, many bridle over any suggestion to the contrary.

Scalise was hit as a gunman sprayed bullets into a GOP congressional baseball practice outside Washington D.C.

Pelosi noted that Trump resorted to violent language at times on the campaign trail, and she accused Republicans of “sanctimony” in seeking to place blame on the left. He is the House’s No. 3 GOP leader. The popular and gregarious lawmaker is known for his love of baseball and handed out commemorative bats when he secured the job of House whip several years ago.

Before the shooting, Hodgkinson had apparently approached Duncan – a name on his list – to ask the part affiliation of the people practicing on the field.

Aguilar plays outfield for the Democratic team; before the shooting, Scalise was slated to play second base for the Republicans.

Hodgkinson – an IL home inspector who had been living out of his van near the park – had a social media page filled with criticism of Republicans and the Trump administration.

“The events of yesterday were devastating, and we know it will take time to heal”, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, said.

Along with the names – Representatives Mo Brooks of Alabama, Jeff Duncan of SC and Trent Franks of Arizona – Hodgkinson also had photos of the field on his phone, law enforcement officials told the NYT. James Hodgkinson had been a vocal opponent of the Republican party.
