McConnell Delays Healthcare Vote

McConnell Delays Healthcare Vote

With mounting defections within the GOP caucus over the bill, leaders chose to delay a vote on the legislation until after Congress returns from next week’s July 4th recess.

“We’re going to press on”, McConnell said after announcing the delay, saying leaders would keep working to make senators feel “comfortable” with the bill. Trump told a gathering of Senate Republicans. “We’re still optimistic that we’ll get there”. With Senate Democrats united in opposing the bill, Republicans can only afford to have two “no” votes from its own caucus. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, cited the impact on coverage and the opioid addiction epidemic, among other issues in the Senate Republicans’ Better Care and Reconciliation Act.

Republican lawmakers are seeking to introduce a replacement that will impose cuts to the program.

The report prompted senator Susan Collins, a key moderate vote, to say she could not support moving forward on the bill as it stood. It transforms Medicaid from an open-ended commitment to anybody who meets certain criteria into a much less generous block grant. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Sen.

Tom discussed the lack of Republican support for the new healthcare bill during The Tom Sullivan Show on Tuesday.

Both the House and Senate proposals would end the requirement that Americans buy health insurance or pay a fine.

However, the fate of the measure – a years-long goal of Republicans – is now in doubt.

“This will be great if we get it done, and if we don’t get it done it’s just going to be something that we’re not going to like, and that’s OK, and I understand that very well”, Trump told a group of Republican senators visiting the White House on Tuesday.

“With numbers like these, it’s not surprising the Republican leadership in Congress is having a hard time building consensus”, said Lee Miringoff, the director of the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion.

“As I’ve said many times, the Affordable Care Act is not working for many OH families and small businesses”, Portman said. The Affordable Care Act is often called Obamacare. One reason? Those plans would cover fewer benefits than under Obamacare.

The Senate draft would save some US$321 billion (RM1375 billion) in federal spending over the 2017-2016 period, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).

So a bus shuttled GOPs from Capitol Hill to the White House for a pitch from President Trump.

This is the second health care bill to be considered in Congress.

That’s slightly better than the House GOP bill. Mike Lee (R-UT), who had been critical of how the GOP health care bill was being cobbled together. “There’s more work to do on this, but there’s also more understanding that has to be provided in terms of the CBO score”.

If the Senate eventually approves its version of an overhaul, either the House would have to pass the same bill or reconcile its version with the Senate’s before Trump could sign it into law.

Senators – including Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst here in Iowa – must take time to listen to their constituents, to consider how this bill would change many of their lives and to ask if this is really, what their supporters, and the others they represent, want from their government.

When Obamacare became law in 2010, it passed without any Republican votes. She added that her final decision could rest on the assessment being made by the Congressional Budget Office.

Thanks for your continued support.
