MVP caps Westbrook’s historic season

On Monday, after a six-week wait, he’ll likely receive the league’s most-coveted individual award. Alongside MVP, the National Basketball Association will also hand out a number of awards on Monday night.

So, good on the folks for not going on strike the week before Canada Day, which I presume is a pretty big week in the world of retail booze.

The show will be broadcast on TNT with Drake hosting the event. Basically, under the league’s new collective bargaining agreement, the team can offer him a huge “Designated Player Extension” deal estimated at over $200 million for five years. Perhaps one of the most notable on his list was “the media”, who were responsible for voting for him to win this award.

Oklahoma City Thunder’s Russell Westbrook (0) and Houston Rockets’ James Harden (13) talk on the court after an National Basketball Association game.

Westbrook’s toughest competition for the NBA MVP award comes from Adidas ambassador James Harden, who hit the court in his first signature shoe, the Adidas Harden Vol. 1. “Without you guys, I don’t know where I would be”, Westbrook said via ESPN.

Westbrook, who was seen as a heavy favorite prior to the unveiling, became the first player to average a triple-double since Oscar Robertson.

Westbrook topped Robertson’s single-season, triple-double record on April 9 in Denver.

Malcolm Brogdon of the Milwaukee Bucks is the NBA’s Rookie of the Year. Both Gordon and Williams have the stats to be named winners while Andre Iguodala did everything for the Warriors off the bench. Milwaukee Bucks point guard won the Rookie of the Year award over the Philadelphia 76ers duo of Dario Saric and Joel Embiid.

Golden State forward Draymond Green was voted the Defensive Player of the Year, defeating co-finalists Leonard and French center Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz. D’Antoni made a decision to move star guard James Harden to primarily play point guard, which resulted in Harden’s best season easily of 29.1 points, 11.2 assists, and 8.1 rebounds per game.

The Coach of the Year finalists are the Rockets’ Mike D’Antoni, the Spurs’ Gregg Popovich and the Miami Heat’s Erik Spoelstra.

Other awards to be presented include Executive of the Year, Sixth Man Award, Teammate of the Year, Sportsmanship Award and NBA Cares Community Assist Award.

Other than that, this is really an experiment that I don’t think is necessary, one I don’t think will work long-term and one that I imagine even most of the players don’t care about one way or the other.
