Officials say an inmate was killed and an officer wounded after the prisoner attacked one of his escorts inside a Tennessee clinic.
Robertson County Sheriff Bill Holt has updated the condition of the deputy critically injured in that incident yesterday afternoon at 100 Oaks in Nashville.
The deputy was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment.
“In law enforcement, we train for the worst, but pray it never happens”. The care provided to Josh Wiley and his family by the Metro emergency medical staff and the doctors and nurses from Vanderbilt University Medical Center has been outstanding.
Authorities told News 2 the inmate was being transported to the Thompson Lane clinic for a medical appointment when he grabbed the deputy’s gun during a confrontation and fired. He is in critical condition.
Officials with Vanderbilt initially issued an alert asking people at their campus to seek shelter immediately. Responding to Mr. Wiley’s calls for help, his partner, Deputy Tomisha Jones, shot at the inmate.
No other injuries have been reported so far.
