No ‘proof’ on ‘collusion’ with Russians, Trump says

President Donald Trump appeared to confirm Friday that he is under investigation for obstruction of justice, claiming that he is being investigated for firing FBI Director James Comey by the man who told him to do it. Mueller also has expansive powers to investigate any matters that develop from his initial investigation.

The Post article published last Wednesday, and accessible at this link, reported that after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey on May 9, the Bureau quickly opened an investigation into whether the move, or other actions by Trump, constituted obstruction of justice. The sheer amount of money at stake approaches a trillion dollars, maybe higher, and that’s money that will be made largely by Vladimir Putin in Russian Federation and by Exxon/Mobil in America, whose former CEO is now Trump’s Secretary of State.

Comey took notes after each of his nine meetings or phone calls with Trump, including one alone with the president in the Oval Office on February 14, the day after Flynn was forced to resign.

It began earlier this year, when Trump called the investigation into Russia’s hacking of the presidential election a “political witch hunt“.

Yet Trump’s angry tweets on Friday underscored the near-impossible challenge his advisers and legal team have in trying to get him to avoid weighing in on an active probe. “That’s undemocratic on its face and a blatant violation of the president’s oath of office”.

Thursday night, Rosenstein issued an unusual statement complaining about leaks in the case. Trump initially used that memo along with a recommendation from Sessions to justify firing Comey.

Rosenstein has been overseeing the Russian Federation probe since shortly after Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself.

The Trump tweets come after the top lawyer for his transition team warned organization officials to preserve all records and other materials related to the Russian Federation probe.

Among them, the Director of National Intelligence, Dan Coats, head of the National Security Agency (N.S.A.), Adm. Michael S. Rogers, and former N.S.A. deputy director, Richard Ledgett.

White House senior advisor Jared Kushner arrives to join U.S. President Donald Trump and the rest of the U.S. delegation to meet with Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud at the Royal Court in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia May 20, 2017.

Vice President Mike Pence on Thursday hired his own lawyer to represent him in the special counsel’s Russian Federation investigation. Pence headed the Trump transition until Inauguration Day. And Democrats and Republicans alike have criticized his use of Twitter, particularly amid the ongoing investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election. The memo asks for preservation of electronic communications and data, telephone logs, audio recordings, videos, calendars and other items.

“There’s a limitation on Twitter, as we all know”, Sekulow told CNN, adding that Trump’s “response was as it related to the Washington Post report”.

“Why is that Hillary Clintons family and Dems dealings with Russian Federation are not looked at, but my non-dealings are?” he asked.
