Youngsters Rishabh Pant and Kuldeep Yadav have been included while Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma, who are now playing in Champions Trophy in England are omitted.
The decision of the Selection Committee to pick Kuldeep Yadav and Rishabh Pant has not come as a surprise as the duo were part of the five players kept on standby for CT2017.
Rishabh Pant had an impressive IPL for the Delhi Daredevils. Virat Kohli-led India play Windies (Cricket West Indies has renamed the national team) in the five-match ODI series starting on June 23 and a lone Twenty20 match on July 9.
Opening batsman and present vice-captain Rohit Sharma along with pacer Jasprit Bumrah have been rested. While Rishabh Pant is expected to open the innings alongside Dhawan.
Meanwhile, the BCCI said that the administrative staff of the Indian Team will continue to remain the same for the tour of West Indies. “Hope I will perform well in the tour”, added Pant, who has played just one T20 worldwide for India. CoA chief Vinod Rai had said that Kumble will continue for the tour, subject to his acceptance.
West Indies did not qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy and they will be keen to take on high-flying India in the Caribbean. The fast bowling unit looks solid with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, and Mohammed Shami, with Pandya providing backup.
The other team members are Shikhar Dhawan, who has performed brilliantly in the Champions Trophy, Ajinkya Rahane, MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Kedar Jadhav, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Md Shami, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Dinesh Karthik.
