Penguins’ Sidney Crosby wins back-to-back Conn Smythe trophies

Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was awarded the Conn Smythe (smyth) Trophy for a second consecutive year after finishing second to teammate Evgeni Malkin with 27 points. He gave coach Mike Sullivan the blunt directive to cut through the noise when he hired him to replace Mike Johnston in December 2015. “We’re going to celebrate in Pittsburgh in a few days”.

The stingy Predators found Pittsburgh was up to the task, with the Penguins taking the first two games on home ice.

“You know, he’s arguably the best player of his generation, and he’s a guy that just knows how to win”. He also scored four goals in the finals. Of course, Sid being the best player in the world again and winning the Conn Smythe.

“He’s just an example to follow”, Letang said.

He is the third person to achieve the feat and first since Mario Lemieux, the former Penguins great and now team owner, in 1991-92. He averaged 1.89 points per game to Crosby’s 1.31 in the regular season and 1.61 in the playoffs (Crosby, 1.13). The Washington Capitals should have been the first team to teach us this lesson.

This year’s viewership gains come despite five Canadian teams qualifying for the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs, including two Canadian teams in the Second Round and one in the Conference Finals – as compared to zero in 2016 – plus the absence of a Top 20 TV home market in the Stanley Cup Final. The Kings beat the Devils in the 2012 Cup Final and the Rangers in the 2014 Cup Final.

Here’s the most ludicrous thing of all: Murray led Pittsburgh to not one, but two titles as a rookie. The year after going back-to-back, the Lemieux-Jagr Penguins were heavy favorites to win three in a row – especially after putting up a 56-21-7 record in the regular season and posting an National Hockey League record 17-game win streak right before the playoffs started.

When Nashville finally put one in the net, it didn’t count. “All of this time in-between, it was tough and it was frustrating to not bring another championship, you know?” The problem is that when referee Kevin Pollock did that early in the second period of Game Six, the puck was sitting untouched in the crease in full view of 17,000 fans and not tucked away under Murray’s body. “We lost a lot of guys to injuries. I’m like, ‘God folks, I have no idea, ‘” he said. But whatever happens now, he has cemented a special place in the game’s history for himself that goes far beyond being one of the first goalies to paint a design on his mask. “We believed all the way”.

Another part that surprised me personally was the fact Sidney Crosby won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Playoff MVP, now don’t get me wrong he’s an awesome player and was clutch when need be.

“I’m not thinking about that because I think we’ll still play together for a long time and maybe win”, Malkin said. Big decisions need to be made about the Lightning’s own players, while the team looks to make improvements so they legitimately compete for a cup next season.

Since an owners’ lockout led to the cancellation of the 2004-05 season and the NHL Players Association’s capitulation to a hard salary cap, Bettman _ commissioner since 1993 _ has touted an even-playing surface allowing for any team to potentially win the Cup. In fact, I believe he’s the best player the game has seen since Gretzky. So to be able to come to their stadium, for them to have us here and to do this, it’s really cool to see some of the guys and see the reaction of seeing the Stanley Cup.
