Special Counsel Has No ‘Full-Scale’ Investigation of Donald Trump Yet, Reporter Says

His comments appeared to directly contradict Trump’s own tweet this week, in which he appeared to refer to deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein when he wrote: “I’m being investigated for firing the Federal Bureau of Investigation director by the man who told me to fire the Federal Bureau of Investigation director”.

Donald Trump isn’t under investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller, a member of the president’s legal team said, despite Trump’s repeated comments that he’s the target of a “witch hunt“.

Sen. Marco Rubio says it’s best for the country to let the FBI’s investigation into Russian Federation meddling in the 2016 presidential election take its course, and the Florida Republican tells CNN’s “State of the Union” that’s what he’d advise President Donald Trump.

Schiff also said he believes recent congressional testimony from Comey and Attorney General Jeff Sessions points to signs of possible obstruction by Trump that warrant further investigation. One of President Donald Trump’s personal lawyers said in television interviews yesterday that the president was not under investigation for obstruction of justice, but when pressed on the assertion, said he was not certain.

A Washington Post report from Wednesday says Mueller is speaking to senior intelligence officials, figuring out whether Trump obstructed justice. I want to be clear here.

When Wallace pressed him on the apparent contradictions in his statements, Sekulow insisted that he had been clear that the president was not under investigation, and accused the Fox News host of “putting words in my mouth”.

Trump made the comments on Twitter early Sunday while away on his first weekend trip to Camp David, the official U.S. presidential retreat in the state of Maryland.

Trump’s tweets following the report appeared to confirm the investigation, but his lawyer said it only appeared that way because of the character limit on Twitter.

“Witch hunt” has become Trump’s preferred phrase to dismiss the probe into Russian election interference.

The claim that Trump was advised by Robert Mueller to fire James Comey has yet to be substantiated.

Mueller was named as special counsel after Trump abruptly fired Comey, who up to his dismissal had been heading the Russian Federation probe into Moscow’s alleged interference in the USA presidential election.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed Mueller as special counsel following Comey’s ouster in early May.

Again, Sekulow left out some key points, which Wallace and others were only too happy to raise: Trump later told NBC’s Lester Holt that he had already made up his mind to fire Comey regardless of the recommendation from Sessions and that he was firing him because he was unhappy with the Russian Federation investigation.

“The MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN agenda is doing very well despite the distraction of the Witch Hunt”.

Fellow panellist Angus King, an independent who caucuses with the Democrats, estimated that investigators are just 20 percent into their probe, which could last for months.

Yet Trump’s angry tweets last Friday underscored the near-impossible challenge his advisers and legal team have in trying to get him to avoid weighing in on an active probe.

Sekulow says that Trump hasn’t been notified of any investigation.
