In fact, after seeing her kick butt as Colleen in Iron Fist, we were only more excited to see what Season 7 of Game of Thrones had in store for Nymeria. However, one very important character nearly didn’t make it back this time around: Nymeria Sand.
It’ll take more than a mysterious order of ninjas to keep Iron Fist co-star Jessica Henwick from returning to Westeros. In fact, during the initial conversations between the actress and HBO, Henwick told them there was no way that she’d be able to make her schedule work, as the two series were filming at the same time.
With such a busy schedule and Iron Fist/Defenders taking up months of her availability, it was unclear whether Henwick would be able to return to her GOT role by the time shooting for season seven came around. Sure, you won’t have to pound the pavement for parts anymore, but you give up a little bit of your freedom when you lock yourself down to one project so exclusively. “I literally was flying back and forth while I was doing Iron Fist in NY to Belfast, even during Christmas break”. [A GoT producer explained], ‘It’s really important that you come back otherwise your character will just disappear.’ So I spoke to Marvel and I managed to get a release. But even with this leeway, Henwick revealed that there was a point wherein she was tempted to just leave the set and let her character Nymeria disappear.
During an interview with EW, Jessica Henwick – who plays the lethal warrior Nymeria Sand – revealed that she almost said to no to a Game of Thrones return, which would have caused her character to be written off.
“When we left Nymeria she was newly aligned with Olenna Tyrell [Diana Rigg] and was going to start a war”.
It does, however, reinforce our theory that Ellaria and her illegitimate daughters are going to kick the bucket this year.
“Game of Thrones” Season 7 premieres July 16 on HBO.
