It registered as a 3.7-magnitude quake, the USGS data showed.
People in Reno, Sacramento, Yuba City and some in Chico reported feeling shakes from the quake.
A shallow magnitude 3.9 natural disaster was reported Tuesday morning 11 miles from Truckee, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
However, there were no reports of damage or injuries from the earthquakes.
Preliminary quake information shows that about 28 minor aftershocks occurred in the area, ranging in magnitude from 0.6.to 3.2 following the 3.7 magnitude shaker.
