As for who the president is referring to, the most likely option is Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who appointed Robert Mueller as special counsel. “Witch Hunt”, the president wrote.

But then Rosenstein made the surprise move to appoint Robert Mueller as special counsel to lead the Russian Federation investigation, a development that people close to Sessions and Trump believe has worsened matters for everyone involved.
Trump has been warned by key figures in Capitol Hill and conservative legal experts removing Mueller would lead to a constitutional crisis which just made firing the special counsel nearly an impossible option.
Friday’s tweet marked the first time Mr Trump has publicly acknowledged he is under investigation.
Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said she was “increasingly concerned” that Mr Trump will sack both Mr Mueller and Mr Rosenstein.
It is the specialities of Mueller’s team that is more likely to be a serious concern to the Trump camp, since they point to a wide-ranging inquiry that will look into all aspects of Trump’s complex links to Russian Federation.
Mueller, Rosenstein said, has the “full independence he needs to conduct that investigation”. An official of Trump’s transition confirmed the lawyer’s internal order, which was sent Thursday.
The Post reported that FBI agents and federal prosecutors are also looking into the financial dealings of Flynn, former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and former campaign policy adviser Carter Page.
Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, also has retained an attorney to represent him. Sessions testified Tuesday that he felt he had no proper choice because he had a potential political conflict of interest, having been a campaign adviser to President Trump. He has already been subpoenaed by the House of Representatives intelligence committee.
