Trump personal attorney says president not under investigation

Donald Trump awoke early this morning to again tweet about Robert Mueller’s criminal investigation of the president, but despite that fact, one of his attorneys appeared on “Meet the Press” to insist he isn’t under investigation.

Jay Sekulow, a lawyer who is part of a team hired by Trump to deal with allegations of collusion by his campaign with Moscow, appeared to contradict Trump’s statement on Twitter on Friday that he was being investigated for firing his Federal Bureau of Investigation director last month.

The president wrote on Twitter: “I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!”

President Donald Trump’s announcement of a tougher line toward Cuba has delighted hardliners on the island, who say it reveals Washington’s long-held aim of imposing its will on Cuba.

“I don’t appreciate you putting words in my mouth when I’ve been crystal clear that the president is not and has not been under investigation”, Sekulow told Wallace later. “There is not an investigation of the president of the United States, period”, said Jay Sekulow, chief counsel of the American Center for Law and Justice.

Wallace asked Sekulow if Trump believes that Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein, who wrote a memo criticizing Comey’s handling of the Clinton email investigation, has done anything wrong.

Republican allies defended the president’s “pugnacious” attitude in wanting to hit back against allegations that he obstructed justice, while other GOP senators suggested that the president should allow the Russian Federation investigation to proceed without interruption. The Washington Post or one of President Trump’s attorneys?

Former FBI Director James Comey told the Senate intelligence committee that Trump pressured him on the Russian Federation investigation and asked him to drop an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

When Wallace pointed out that Sekulow had appeared to agree in his answer that the president is under investigation, the lawyer grew flustered.

During testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee on June 8, Comey testified that he felt pressured by Trump to drop an investigation into the president’s top national security adviser Michael Flynn’s links with Russian Federation. A source close to Trump’s outside legal team, speaking anonymously, had said Friday the president was talking about the Post report.

He said, however, that Sekulow’s comments could mean the White House was taking the position that no investigation exists until Mueller’s team officially confirms it, disregarding any media reports based on anonymous sourcing. “You just told us that”. “The response from the president, using social media, was about that story“, he said. And the result of that will be good for America, so that we can move on to take some of the other important issues that are confronting us”, Rubio said, adding Trump “has a right to his opinion on these issues. Trump’s tweet, however, used only 111 characters and Trump has not been shy about using multiple tweets to convey a singular message.

“There’s a limitation on Twitter, as we all know”, Sekulow said.
