Why Bill Cosby Apologized To His Accuser’s Mother

The defence will begin presenting its side on Monday.

One of the deposition’s most explosive revelations is Cosby’s admission that he acquired Quaaludes to give to women with whom he wanted to have sex. He raised his walking stick in acknowledgment.

Cosby leaves the courtroom for a break during the fifth day of his sexual assault trial. He waved from the back of an SUV with its window half down.

Cosby met Constand in late 2002 when he attended a basketball game at Temple University, his alma mater, in Philadelphia. He has said it was consensual.

He said that, despite what Gianna Constand told him, he still thought she was recording their last conversation, the one where he talked about setting up an education fund for her daughter.

Prosecutors evidently saved the quaalude testimony until the end for maximum effect.

During his testimony, Reape asked why Cosby would give pink Benadryl to authorities if he claimed to still have the blue pills.

Ms Constand testified this week that Cosby gave her pills that made her woozy, then violated her. The 79-year-old TV star could spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted. His testimony was sealed for years until portions were released by a judge in 2015 at the request of The Associated Press.

Cosby wasn’t on the witness stand but prosecutors introduced more of the comedian’s prior deposition testimony. For the jury, this is likely to be the closest it comes to hearing from Cosby himself, since he has said he does not intend to take the stand.

As Cosby walked from the courtroom, a woman yelled: “Bill Cosby, I love you!” “And what people want to say and want you to say and how they maneuver, and, yes, I do have lawyers protect me – ‘objection, ‘ ‘sustained.’ But I just don’t want to sit there and have to figure out what I believe is a truthful answer as to whether or not I’m opening a can of something that my lawyers are scrambling [to shut]”. Robreno explained that the reason for unsealing the material was because Cosby has maintained an image as a “public moralist”, and has largely benefitted from the public’s trust as a result. Later, she added that he also said, “Oh I feel bad telling you this, it sounds perverted, do I sound like a perverted person?” Cosby was asked in a passage read Friday. Constand refused the offer and reported Cosby to police, filing suit after prosecutors failed to file charges.

Valliere’s testimony could also lend credibility to Cosby accuser Kelly Johnson’s testimony, which included her admitting she was scared to speak up about Cosby’s alleged assault of her since she worked at a Hollywood agency where he was the top client.

“I don’t think an expert should ever, especially in this case, comment on the credibility of victims”, Valliere testified when asked if such an approach was appropriate. Dozens of women have come forward with similar stories, dating to the 1960s, but Constand’s case is the first to reach trial. Judge Steven O’Neill has told jurors he expects the trial to wrap up within days.

More than 50 women have said Cosby assaulted them, but the statute of limitations has run out in almost all cases.

Victims in that situation also have trouble labeling themselves as abused or labeling the trusted person who abused them as an abuser, she said.

Testifying would carry enormous risk for Cosby, exposing him to cross-examination about some of the lurid things in his deposition. In the document, Cosby said he feared he was being recorded and didn’t want to mail the name of the drug on a piece of paper or send the pills in the mail to Canada, where Andrea lived.
